Description

Blackstone BP-CD 180 Flail Mower

The BP-CD 180 series horizontal-axis tractor-mounted flail mower is a heavy-duty agricultural machine, but despite this it remains a highly efficient machine for various grass, shrub and light pruning jobs.

This machine is designed to work on steep and hard-to-reach terrain (despite its heavy weight of 462 kg) thanks to its ability to move the working position by means of a powerful hydraulic piston.

Simplicity is one of its hallmarks, thanks to its ease of maintenance and its well exposed and easily accessible greasing points.

Heavy-series flail mower, suitable for mainly hobby use, equipped with hydraulic side-shift, 4 drive belts, rear roller and double opening bonnet.

TECHNICAL DATA (brief overview):

Real working width: 180 cm

Effective overall width: 195 cm

Weight: 462 kg
Hydraulic side shift
Adjustable 2° category 3-point hitch with hydraulic piston
4-belt drive
Required power: 40-60 HP

Double opening bonnet, rotor and side bearings

This flail mower has been designed to support an inter-row disc (available separately on the site), which can be attached to the machine by means of a practical bracket (supplied).

The Blackstone BP-CD 180 flail mower's double bonnet, placed at the top of the cutting compartment, allows access to the machine's internal components in a more convenient and practical way so as to carry out maintenance, inspection and cleaning of any crop or vegetation residue.

Hydraulic side shift and 3 point-hitch

The Blackstone BP-CD 180 flail mower is equipped with hydraulic shift.

The three-point hitch slides on two sturdy tubulars, one longer (126 cm) at the bottom, which runs along almost the entire body, the other shorter (45 cm) at a higher position.

Focus on the piston that controls the hydraulic shift (28 cm) of this flail mower. This allows the position of the cutting unit to be adjusted and moved laterally compared to the machine frame. This feature allows the cutting unit to be aligned with the vegetation to be cut and to work efficiently even under the most demanding shredding conditions.

Universal standard PTO ( 1 3/8" Z6 )

Universal joints suitable for all tractors on the market.

Focus on the sturdy 2° category 3-point hitch, wheelbase size 67 cm.

Height of the two lowest pins from the ground: 30 cm

Height from the highest pin from the ground: 85 cm

Detail of the gearbox:

1 - Oil level cap
2 - Oil drain cap
3 - SAE 80/90 oil filler cap and vent

Sturdy set of front protection slaps made of steel.

The front protection chains of this flail mower are safety systems employed to prevent debris or other objects projection from the front section of the machine during the working process, thus ensuring several safety and protection advantages.

Cutting tools: hammer flails

No. of hammers fitted on standard equipment: 14.

Weight: 1200 g each.

Focus on the cutting hammers, mounted on the rotating roller.

Hole width: 16 mm

Blade width: 13,5 cm

Focus on the single row of underframe counter-hammers.

These hammers are fixed to a rotor inside the machine.

It finely shreds grass and twigs, while simultaneously rolling the turf. Thanks to the high number of rotor revolutions and the number of hammers (hammer flails), it allows reducing the wave impact of the grass cover and performing excellent shredding operations.

Recommendations for Use - Tractor-mounted Fixed Flail Mowers

To ensure correct operation, a longer service life and safe working conditions, it is essential to use the tractor-mounted flail mower in accordance with the instructions set out in the user manual and the machine’s technical specifications. Incorrect use may result in premature wear of components, reduced performance or damage not covered by the warranty.

Before starting work, always check that the tractor is compatible with the flail mower by verifying the required power, hitch type and intended operating conditions. Correct matching of the machine and the tractor ensures optimum performance and prevents the transmission from being overloaded.

  • Use the flail mower exclusively on suitable surfaces: the machine is designed for grass shredding, wild vegetation, plant residues and materials compatible with the machine’s category. Avoid contact with unintended objects such as stones, metal, plastic or other foreign bodies.
  • Adjust the working height correctly: maintaining an adequate distance from the ground reduces the impact on the cutting units and limits excessive stress on the machine’s structure.
  • Do not operate the machine where there are hidden obstacles or unsuitable ground conditions: ditches, stumps, exposed roots, loose stones or uneven ground can cause sudden impacts and damage to the cutting parts or transmission components.
  • Do not use the flail mower for operations other than shredding: the machine must not be used for earthmoving, ground levelling or other applications not specified by the manufacturer.
  • Always adjust the forward speed to suit the working conditions: excessive speed can reduce the quality of the shredding, increase vibrations and subject the machine to stresses greater than those for which it was designed.
  • Avoid using the machine on excessively damp material: wet grass or particularly damp vegetation can cause material to build up inside the machine, reducing its efficiency.
  • Do not force the tractor forward: if the rotor slows down, vibrations increase or cutting capacity decreases, speed must be reduced and the work adapted to the conditions of the ground and vegetation.
  • Check the condition of the cutting components regularly: worn, damaged or missing blades, hammers or other cutting elements can compromise the machine’s operation and increase vibrations during use.
  • Carry out periodic checks and routine maintenance: check that components are correctly tightened, inspect the condition of the transmission components and ensure the machine is generally clean to maintain its efficiency and safety.

Use of the power take-off (PTO):

The tractor’s power take-off (PTO ) must be used in accordance with the rotational speed specified by the flail mower manufacturer. An incorrect rotational speed may compromise the machine’s operation, causing overheating, accelerated wear or excessive stress on mechanical components.

When attaching and detaching the flail mower, the power take-off must always be disengaged and the tractor switched off. It is also necessary to check that the PTO shaft is correctly installed and has sufficient clearance to move freely while working.
