The Ryobi RY18LMXSP51A-0 battery-powered lawn mower is a self-propelled machine designed for mowing lawns on surfaces up to approximately 600 m². Its 51 cm cutting deck and 60-litre grass collector allow it to handle medium-sized gardens, ensuring continuous operation.

The self-propelled design reduces the effort required to move the mower forward; this is particularly useful on slightly sloping or uneven ground. The dual 18V battery-powered system (not included) increases the operating time compared to single-battery models.

The RYOBI RY18LMXSP51A-0 battery-powered lawn mower operates using a rotating blade powered by an electric motor, with a variable speed of between 2700 and 3100 rpm. During cutting, the grass is lifted by the airflow generated by the rotation and channelled into the rear grass collector; alternatively, it is shredded via the mulching function or ejected sideways. The electronic control automatically adjusts the cutting blade speed according to the resistance encountered: this ensures consistent performance and optimises battery life.

The 18 V lithium-ion battery can be recharged at any time (like the batteries in modern smartphones, it has no memory effect) so that it is always ready for use. It lasts on average three times longer than a standard battery. The battery is equipped with a handy charge indicator and an activation button to prevent the tool from being switched on accidentally.

Advantages of the battery-powered electric motor

• More reliable than a combustion engine, thanks to its electric motor. It has no spark plugs, filters, fuel pumps, carburettors, etc., i.e. components that are prone to problems.
• Much lighter than combustion engines
• Lower consumption and drastically reduced operating costs compared to combustion models (cutting can be carried out with minimal electricity costs). Moreover, there is no need to constantly procure fuel (which should always be fresh).
• Reduced vibrations, thanks to the electric motor. On the other hand, almost all combustion engine systems, which are not equipped with anti-vibration systems on steel springs, have a very high degree of vibration, making the work extremely uncomfortable.

• Much quieter operation, it is more pleasant to use than combustion engines.

The mower is a traditional 3-in-1 model, with rear discharge, grass collection in the grass bag and mulching.

GRASS COLLECTION:

allows grass to be collected in the dedicated 60-litre grass collector. This grass collector is designed to be easily removed and emptied, improving efficiency and convenience during use. The grass collector’s large capacity reduces downtime, making the entire lawn mowing process quicker and less tiring.

REAR DISCHARGE SYSTEM:

allows you to cut the grass without using the grass collector, depositing it directly at the rear of the lawn mower.

MULCHING:

Instant conversion: simply remove the grass collector,insert the supplied mulching plug and lower the rear deflector to activate the mulching system.

Using the mulching plug allows you to deposit the grass clippings to fertilise the soil.

This model allows you to choose from seven different height settings, ranging from a minimum of 25 mm to a maximum of 90 mm. Adjustment is quick and easy, thanks to a single lever that controls all four wheels simultaneously.

The centralised cutting height adjustment not only improves the quality of the cut but also simplifies the use of the lawn mower. With a single operation, you can adjust the height of all the wheels, avoiding the need to adjust each wheel individually.

The lawn mower weighs 24.7 kg, making it very light and compact.

The handlebar can be easily removed for storage or transport using the two knobs. Its length is also adjustable.

The main controls are located on the handlebar; to operate the machine, press the central button and, at the same time, press the two activation buttons.

To start the lawn mower, you must insert the ignition key.

FULL CHARGE FOR THE ENTIRE LIFE OF THE BATTERY: the charge of lithium-ion batteries does not fade. Unlike nickel-cadmium batteries, whose power gradually decreases, lithium battery cells maintain constant power throughout the entire cycle. LOWER WEIGHT: lithium batteries offer the best power-to-weight ratio. On average, they weigh 1/3 of nickel-cadmium batteries.

NO MEMORY EFFECT: lithium batteries can be recharged at any time without any negative memory effect, offering maximum power even after hundreds of charging cycles.

The actual cutting area may be significantly lower than the value stated by the manufacturer, which is calculated based on standard operating conditions of dry grass of medium to low height. In the presence of tall or wild grass, grass that has not been mowed to a short length, damp grass or particularly dense grass, the workload increases and the motor requires more absorption of power, resulting in a reduction in the batteries’ actual running time.

The manufacturer’s stated value is, however, fully reliable under favourable cutting conditions, i.e. on a regularly maintained lawn with dry grass that is not excessively tall or wild, which correspond to the standard conditions used in laboratory tests.

If mowing is carried out regularly on a thin and well-maintained layer of grass, preferably in the afternoon when the turf is virtually free of moisture, performance may be in line with the stated figures and, in some cases, even exceed the manufacturer’s specifications.

The cutting system also affects absorption: collection and mulching require greater blade thrust than simple discharge. The condition of the blade has a further impact: a blunt blade increases friction and reduces the number of metres that can actually be mowed on a single charge.

Other factors depend on the terrain. Slopes and uneven ground require higher torque, and engaging the traction drive (if available) results in continuous absorption of power, which significantly reduces the actual working time. Sub-optimal temperatures, battery age, and repeated sequences of restarting or tight manoeuvres further reduce the available runtime.

Under sub-optimal operating conditions, the difference between the stated area and the area that can actually be worked is therefore due to the increased load placed on the motor, the blade and the traction system.

The LAWN MOWER is designed and intended exclusively for mowing grass in gardens (and not on other types of terrain), characterised by smooth level surfaces without stones or other solid objects, and grass maintained as a “lawn” (i.e. no wild or overgrown grass), which should be cut regularly, ensuring it does not grow beyond 25–30 cm (as most lawn mowers cannot cut grass taller than this). Do not operate on slopes steeper than 15% (≈9°), except with 4x4 models.

Please also note that grass should only be cut when both the lawn and the ground beneath are completely dry. Only cut the grass in dry weather, well away from periods of rain or irrigation, and preferably in the afternoon when it is not saturated with morning dew. Wet grass tends to bend under the weight of the cutting blades, reducing cutting efficiency, increasing the risk of clogging in the cutting deck and placing excessive strain on the motor.
